Make a quick coat check part of the routine
After outdoor time, gently check the coat and skin, including around the ears, neck and between the toes. Notice increased scratching, skin irritation or visible parasites. Ask your vet for help if you are unsure how to remove a tick safely.
Choose prevention with your vet
- Match the product to your pet’s species, age, weight and health. Never use a dog-only product on a cat.
- Tell the vet about medicines, previous reactions, pregnancy or nursing before choosing a product.
- Follow the label and your vet’s instructions. Do not shorten the interval or combine products without advice.
- For spot-on treatments, follow instructions about keeping pets apart so they cannot lick each other’s treatment.
Include your home in the plan
Clean pet bedding and resting areas regularly. Ask for a suitable plan for every pet in the household; one product may not be safe for them all.
Do not dismiss a change in behaviour
If your pet seems unwell or develops a reaction after treatment, contact a veterinarian promptly and keep the product packaging. Finding a tick does not diagnose “tick fever”; a veterinary assessment is needed.
